Do you believe in omens? Do you pay attention to them or are you able to identify them? I have been thinking about these lately. Little things here and there that make me stop and go “Whoa!”.
I remember the very first time I saw a tumbleweed. It was during my first visit to Denver. I was driving with a friend and I noticed one on the road. It crossed our path. It was either Colfax or Broadway, maybe even Colorado. I can’t remember, but my reaction was like that of an 8 yr old opening their xmas present and realizing is the Nintendo 64….or something like that :-D
I! Could! NOT! Believe! It! I jumped in the passenger’s seat and I was just yelling ” OMG!! Was that a tumbleweed?!!?” I remember feeling really excited that night. I ended up having an AMAZING time and after flying back to Chicago, I made the decision that Denver was going to be the city for me.

This was the second tumbleweed I saw that night.
I’ve been in Denver for two years, driven almost everyday, and have not seen one ever since…
…until last week.
I am closing a chapter of my life. The one titled “Denver”….part 1, hopefully….and all of a sudden I run into a tumbleweed!!
I was driving on I-25 and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, here comes a tumbleweed. It crossed my path and I almost ran over it. It was such an amazing feeling seeing it right before my eyes. The last 3 years just flashed right before me. I smiled. I felt alive and grateful for having had the opportunity to experience this beautiful city and all of its amazing people.
Also, today, Jess posted this video and tagged me. I hadn’t mentioned to her my encounters with tumbleweeds.

I don’t know what the tumbleweed represents or symbolizes or why they appeared right before I was about to begin a new chapter of my life….twice! I will take it as a sign that I am ready to begin the one titled: “Chicago: Alicia returns better than ever!” haha. Um. yeah.
A tumbleweed is the above-ground part of a plant that, once mature and dry, disengages from the root and tumbles away in the wind.
…and like its definition says, I am ready to disengage and tumble away in the wind!
